National Team Managers to Discuss Biennial World Cup
FIFA has invited various national team managers to discuss its proposal to hold a World Cup tournament every 2 years from 2024 onwards.
In May 2021, FIFA officially announced its intentions to conduct a feasibility study regarding hosting the soccer World Cup biennially.
The idea has been criticised by several football associations, including Uefa and Conmebol, and the South American governing body.
However, Arsene Wenger, the head of global football development at FIFA is determined to have the biennial World Cup motion – set to be voted on in December 2021 – approved.
As a result, the former Arsenal manager has set up an online meeting for Tuesday, 19 October, and Thursday, 21 October, to further explain the proposal to international team coaches.
Speaking to the media about the event, Wenger said: “As a coach of the men’s national teams, their input is essential.”
He added: “Opportunities for us to come together are few and far between but we must embrace these occasions as such dialogue helps us all to protect the unique place that football has in the world and to make it truly global.”
